And They Were Roommates | Original LGBT Acrylic Painting

Two men who spent their entire lives together, shared a home, went everywhere as a pair and never married anyone else. Historians looked at them and thought, what wonderful friends.

And They Were Roommates is an original acrylic painting inspired by the countless LGBTQ+ relationships throughout history that were overlooked, dismissed, or conveniently explained away.

The painting depicts two men together in a vintage-inspired scene, paying homage to the generations of gay men who lived and loved in a world that often refused to acknowledge their relationships.

I wanted to create something that makes people smile at first, then think a little harder. We often look back at old photographs and hear stories about lifelong bachelors, inseparable companions, and devoted friends. Sometimes that's exactly what they were. But sometimes, perhaps, there was a love story hiding in plain sight.

This one-of-a-kind painting celebrates queer history, LGBTQ+ identity and the relationships that deserved to be recognised for what they were.
