Clove Actually | Original Garlic Acrylic Painting | 13 × 18 cm

I believe there's no such thing as too much garlic. If a recipe calls for two cloves, I'm probably adding five, and if there's garlic bread on the menu, I'm ordering it. So it was only a matter of time before I decided that garlic deserved its very own painting.

Clove Actually is an original acrylic painting of garlic, hand-painted on a 13 × 18 cm canvas board at Kauter Studios. I wanted to capture the lovely natural shapes, delicate colours and subtle details that make something as ordinary as a bulb of garlic surprisingly beautiful. It's one of those everyday things we barely give a second thought to, but when you actually stop and look at it, there's plenty worth painting.

I love the idea of turning familiar ingredients into little pieces of contemporary art. Not everything needs to have some enormous meaning behind it. Sometimes a painting can simply celebrate something you love, and in this case, that's garlic. Lots and lots of garlic.

This original garlic painting would look lovely in a kitchen, dining room or as part of a colourful food-themed gallery wall. It's especially suited to anyone who loves cooking, botanical illustrations or unique kitchen artwork with a little personality. It would also make a rather lovely gift for someone who treats garlic as a food group in its own right.

This is the actual original painting I created, not a reproduction. Every brushstroke has been painted by hand, and the finished artwork is signed and completely unique. There's only one original available, so once it's sold, it's gone.

If you love the artwork but would prefer a more affordable option, Clove Actually is also available as a fine art print in A5 and A4.
