Sunny Side Up | Original Fried Egg Acrylic Painting

Sunny Side Up | Original Fried Egg Acrylic Painting

A fried egg is probably one of the most recognisable images in the world, but it's also a surprisingly interesting subject to paint. There's very little to hide behind. Just the white, the yolk and all those subtle changes in texture and colour that make something so simple look convincing.

Sunny Side Up is my original acrylic painting of a fried egg, created on a 13 × 18 cm canvas board. I wanted to celebrate the simplicity of the subject while exploring how light and shadow can turn a few basic shapes into something with real depth.

The yolk is naturally the centre of attention, with its warm golden colour and rounded form. I've used changes in tone to suggest its glossy surface, while the surrounding egg white has softer transitions, delicate shadows and irregular edges that give the composition a more natural appearance.

One of the challenges I enjoy with acrylic painting is creating the appearance of different textures using the same medium. The smooth, reflective yolk and the softer, slightly uneven surface of the cooked white offer a lovely contrast. It's a simple subject, but those small differences are what make it interesting.

I also like the idea of taking something as ordinary as breakfast and treating it as a proper still-life subject. There's a long tradition of artists painting everyday food, and I think the humble fried egg deserves its place amongst the fruit bowls and flower arrangements.

Measuring 13 × 18 cm, this original painting is ideal for a kitchen, breakfast nook or a collection of small contemporary artworks. It would also sit nicely alongside other food-inspired paintings, particularly if you're building a gallery wall around everyday objects.

This is a one-of-a-kind original acrylic painting, signed by me, with only one available. You'll receive the actual hand-painted artwork, rather than a reproduction.

Fine art prints of Sunny Side Up are also available for anyone who loves the painting but would prefer a different size, format or a more affordable option.
